The Twenty Ten Black Hole!

Category :

Since January I have found it increasingly hard to find time to blog, not an excuse I know. What with busy schedules, family commitments and church life overtaking home life, even my day's off have become work related.

Today I sit in Starbucks the place where caffeine and thoughts culminate in gaining clarity on life again. As I think back to even the last 2months so much has happened both in my personal life and in the life of the church.

We have had our first children's and youth worker vision day. A great success seeing over 40 leaders come together for a day of training and vision development. We are already planning next years event, opening it up to our region.

We launched 11Sixteen a youth cafe in Oasis Coffee shop, seeing the transition from church based youth work to community based youth work. This has blown all our expectations out of the water seeing a regular 16 young people come along on a Wednesday night. As I look to the future I pray that this group of young people will start on a journey of faith.

Of recent our young people have just come back from 'The Gathering' fired up and refocused for the year ahead. It was a proud moment seeing my young people respond to God across the sleepless, junk food filled two days. After nearly 9months in posting at Coventry the vision seeds I planted months ago are beginning to break through and shoot. The most satisfying part of any ministers role is seeing people engage with Jesus.

On a personal level Lisa and I have had our first holiday since our honeymoon, a week at Centre Parcs. This was a long time coming, as both of us had started to feel the strain of life and needed a break. During a week of swimming, cycling, badminton and sleeping, I really felt the increasing need to bring back balance in my life, both spiritually and physically.

Without a balanced approach to life all we end up doing is fighting fires, not what God intended for leaders. I have started long distance running again even through the cold weather, and spurred on by my nutcase of a boss I have been entered into my first 10k race in May. More stories about this will appear on here I'm sure. My alarm has been going off earlier and I have been getting into the office earlier. All in all balance has brought, productivity at work, intimacy with God and physical freedom.

All in all the last few months have been fast paced and intense. Lets hope the engine starts to cool for a few weeks....Not a chance!
